Rooting Ken

I’ve always said I’ve never met a doll I didn’t like, but honestly, I have yet to find one that is perfect. There’s always something that peeves me off. Take Ken’s hair for instance. Besides having too much of it, the back of his head is unappealing.

“How hard would it be, Mattel, to cover up the manufacturer’s mark by giving his hair a more natural looking length?”

Tools to the rescue.

About twenty plugs were added to the length of Harrison’s hair (former Hunger Games Gale).

I am much happier with his hair now.

Hello Kitty

I’m not sure whether this post should be named “Hello Sucker” or “Hello Kitty” but there I was, running a non-doll related errand to Walmart and suddenly find myself in the pink aisle (you know how that works, dumb feet with a mind of their own!), and on the shelf was a bunch of the new Hello Kitty fashions.

I have been weaning myself off plastic playsets, dolls with baby eyes, and doll fashions with too much contrasting stitching, Velcro closures, one-sided fabric patterns… I’ve been saying “no to new” just because it’s new, refocusing hobby interests, saving money, taking a break from it all, but my darn hands were in sync with my wayward feet and before I could say “Hello Kitty,” a few fashions flew off the shelf and landed in my cart.

I’m too oldish to be interested in Hello Kitty fashions and my dollies tend to like what I like, so this was madness (you know how it works, just can’t help oneself). Once at home, I decided it would be mean to force a beloved dolly into a Hello Kitty fashion and called upon a volunteer instead. Eden popped out of her bin and said she’d do it (the appeal wasn’t in the fashion, but in getting out of the bin).

I sorta like the sunglasses, the daisy bracelet and the adorable little kitty purse. And I kinda like that little red dress (the pattern is also on the back side of the dress).

I guess I am not totally unhappy about my purchases, it was a dolly fix (and you know how that works).

King of the Crystal Cave Ken

Product Features:
First male and fifth doll in the Faraway Forest Collection
Body Type – Articulated Muscular
Facial Sculpt – Tango
Skin Tone – White
Release Date – 18 Apr 2017

I purchased King of the Crystal Cave (without being aware of a major design flaw) because he had a frowny face that appealed to me (though I wish his expression hadn’t been softened by smiley lips).

He arrived dressed in warrior costume, which he was quickly divested of by moi, the deboxer/player/redresser. And that’s when I discovered the flaw. His arms are black! WTF!

The hair is good, but I wish he’d come with extra hands so I could dispose of the fisted left hand.

He was redressed in a long sleeve sweater (no swimsuit for this boy) and I waited to see if he could attract a girl.

Turns out he could turn the heads of plenty a girl.

But I have a sinking feeling he’ll only be able to hang onto one as long as she remains clueless about those black arms.
