GONE WITH THE WIND SCARLETT O'HARA BARBIE

Scarlett Katie O’Hara
Label: Black
Body Type: Shani
Skin Tone: Nostalgic
Facial Sulpt: Scarlett

I've read Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With The Wind five times and seen the 1939 movie just about as often but I never previously bought a Scarlett O'Hara doll because I’m not nostalgic when it comes to dolls. And I am not, in general, fond of period dolls. But I did admire the Scarlett sculpt of Mattel’s two 2014 Scarlett Katie O'Hara dolls. They have lovely green eyes and vaguely resemble the beautiful Vivian Leigh. I purchased both the Gold Label doll ($80) and Black Label doll ($34) and surprisingly found myself more enamored with the less expensive one. I've set about modernizing her so she can fit in better around here.

Guess I better hurry along and get her over to the local spa for some beauty treatments.

Cheers!

  1. Zellie looks fantastic! What body did you use to match her skin type? Thank you.

    1. Thanks. ツ The body was an eBay hybrid purchase several years ago (came with a different head that didn’t allow me to identify the owner of the body). It’s a pivotal, though, and my guess is either pop life or jazz baby with hands heated and reshaped. The skin tone is either nostalgic or neutra, I tend to have a hard time telling the difference.

  2. I also have the less expensive Scarlett and have rebodied her on a Luxe Glam Raquelle body. I haven't redone her hair, but I like how you styled Miss Zellie's hair. Sometime you will have to show us what happens behind the POOF power! BTW, I have managed to add the "Follow Me" buttons to my blog now at adayinthelifeofmydolls2.blogspot.com.

    1. It’s a shame we have to go to the expense of rebodying, but I know our girls are grateful. It’s the only way they can have a life! ツ

      Hurrying over to sign up!

  3. Very nice! I'd never seen the doll (or her sculpts) before and I thought she looked quite pretty. Her modernized version is smashing--but I think I know why I feel partial to her... Her nose/facial features remind me of Giselle for some reason!

Anyhow, congrats on adding a new, and undoubtedly fab new member to your cast!

    1. I’m a huge fan of Giselle, and gosh, E., I think I see it too. Mattel blew it with the body, but the sculpt was definitely interesting.

  4. I agree, the less expensive version is gorgeous. Still, you gave her a fantastic makeover! She fits in perfectly with your Roville residents. I'm speechless with the spa diorama...wow! Very nice, Ro. :-)

  7. ROFL! "Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit." Thanks so much for that. I know I will be laughing throughout the day every time I think of that line. She modernizes quite well.

  9. "Miss Zellie sure looks purdy ..."

Joe, give me back that keyboard. Action figures, sigh.

You did a great job fitting her to a new body AND styling her hair for a current look. That floral dress suits her, too. I look forward to seeing her with the other Rovillians. And Harper ... wonder what Harper's reaction will be ;-)

    1. I’m not sure about Harper’s reaction to Zellie but I do know she’s going to be pissed when she finds out your Joes were eyeing her. Hahaha!

  10. You did a great job! She looked so relieved. I also like what you did with the OPI set too! I have one and have it in my mall right now, but may change that. Cudda Brown...she said Cudda Brown., yall...too too funny!!!!

    1. I didn't see the OPI at your Mall, but did see the Candy Store. It’s fabulous and it inspired me. I want to do something similar but I am not crafty like you so I’m going to pick up some of the MiWorld candy. The makers of MiWorld sure got confused with the scale of those sets. Most of it is tiny but the accessories are perfect 1:6 (fortunately).

  11. Stunning dolls, both of them! I find Vievien Leigh one of the most beautiful people ever, and those dolls do her justice. I really like Gone with the wind too, have read it a few times, and probably will read it again in future.
Make over went very well, Zellie definitelly looks much more modern than Scarlett does, but still same beautiful.

    1. I agree with you about Vivian Leigh’s beauty. And, we may end up re-reading GWTW together, there’s just something about that book. ツ

  12. She looks like a completely different person. It's amazing what a hair style can do.

    1. Thanks, Muff. That hair retained its curl even after two boil perms but she said, “I’m a Southern Girl - I like big hair,” so I put the kettle away. ツ

  13. She looks just like a modern interpretation of a southern belle! I hope she gets her claws ready though, judging from how the other gals ( like Harper) might react to her being competition! Lovely job!

    1. I thought that was a good point, V., so I warned her. Her response: “I can go from Southern Belle Kitty to Ghetto Cat faster than you can say Bless Your Heart.” I wouldn't bet odds on her against Harper, though. (>‿◠)

  14. Hello from Spain: I really like your two dolls Scarlata Ohara. I saw Gone with the Wind many times. It is one of my favorite movies. Great makeover. Keep in touch

  15. What a beautiful doll! I may just order her. You did a great job on her makeover. Did you just use boiling water poured over her hair to relax the curls a bit? :-)

  16. You did a wonderful job! I am sure that the sales of Barbie dolls will increase greatly (especially in the worldwide market) if Mattel adopts "articulated" bodies (having joints in arms, wrists, knees, and perhaps ankles too) for most Barbie dolls.

  17. I always wanted to know what she looks like if rebodied and with her hair loose...thanks a lot for this! If I have had chosen her, thats what I'd have done. But I got Katniss vr II instead (low buget collector here =/).
