I don’t collect Poppy Parker

I don’t collect Poppy. Never have, never will.

Besides not being a fan of the 50s/60s, I don’t care for her annoying ankle joint and big feet that don’t fit FR or Babs shoes. Her body is shorter, too. I just can’t justify amassing clothing and shoes for yet another body/foot type. So I don’t collect Poppy.

She’s Not There!

    1. Thanks so much, G. She definitely had to come out of the 60s era to work for me.

  2. Uh oh. Poppy looks determined ;-D

I like that haircut on her.

    1. She has a certain dolly dogged determination, doesn’t she? Which means I’m doomed. :(

  3. I actually like the Poppy body better then the regular type wasp-waist FRs (and since she's shorter she fits with more of my males!).

I know how you feel though. I have one Poppy in my collection and I am saying NO MORE! Oh but... she's not there... is so pretty.... gaah!

    1. I know what you mean – she can have dance partners. Woot! But is that enough? There are still those awkward feet. Good luck with your resistance, Tabitha. Poppys are so seductive, so yeah, gaah! LOL

  4. Um... but I can see her. She is clearly there and quite delightful. I think that Harper has affected you. Tsk tsk.

    1. LOL What kind of sick trick was IT playing when they named this doll “She’s Not There” when, as you adroitly point out, she clearly is.

Muff, can we please not talk about Harper this morning? I need it to be a good day. ;)

Whoever originally came up with the saying “never say never” was absolutely right. Darnit!

    1. Oh, that’s wild! I don’t recall seeing that group before. Were you reminded by the “wishing he were dead” bit or the lead singer’s 60s Twiggy style? aaaahahaha!

  8. Dear Ro,

I will take any and all unwanted Poppys you have. I love having different body styles and heights for my dolls. It gives things a more organic feel. While most of my dolls are Barbies or Kens, I have a Disney V.I.P. doll as an adult character who's shorter than a Skipper doll and I find it hysterical that my Fashion Royalty doll towers over her Ken boyfriend. He doesn't seem to mind.

    1. I’ve always enjoyed seeing doll variety in others’ collections – the difference and uniqueness of each doll mixes it up in a really fun way. Your doll world sounds gorgeously novel, and I had a bit of a delighted chuckle thinking how well adjusted and secure your Ken is. When it comes to my collection, I get a bit overwhelmed by all the variety that is available, so narrowing it down helps me cope better. Which, conversely, has not helped the dolly budget at all. LOL

    2. My doll 'verse is pretty much chaos incarnate.

      http://sabrelioness.livejournal.com/

http://sparklinburgndy.deviantart.com/ (just in case. Livejournal's been giving me trouble all weekend)

My Ken character is neither well-adjusted nor secure, but he knows he isn't short and he likes tall girls.

I understand about the doll budget; I just moved and the double house payment is really cutting into my ability to buy dolls! I need to sell that house!

    3. Toki! I just love Metalocalypse and he's my favorite character. I'm so happy you posted your link, sabrelioness. :)

    4. I have to agree with you that 12 inch Ken (the equivalent of a 6 ft tall man) is not short, but I’m not entirely convinced that many men feel comfortable dating taller women. We could get into an evolutionary discussion about why, but I’m just happy your Ken isn’t intimidated by the tall girls. Toki looks to be doing well with Skal, in that respect.

Re your site, have to comment if I haven’t already about how fabulously you recreated Dethklok. William, and his lisp, is my fav; equal in the chuckle department is his gap-tooth Mrs. And a big “awwwwwwwwwww” for his daughter’s articulated arms.

Two house payments???? OUCH!!!! Wishing you oodles of luck that that comes to an end soon.

Thanks for providing the link – your “doll ‘verse” is unexpected, delightful and chaotic in a really good way.

    5. Back in February, one of the Charles Offdensen fan clubs on DA had a contest. I wanted to do something different, so I made a CFO doll out of a Rock Hudson Ken doll and a 12 inch G.I. Joe body. It was so much fun that I decided to make the rest of the band, too. Then I started to make an original supporting cast out of dolls I just liked the look of. It snowballed from there.

    6. So that’s what inspired you?! Love it! Your creativity and imagination are special and I hope you continue to “bring it.”

  9. Hehehe.... She's looking very much "there". Be careful though. Once Poppy moves in she finds a way for her sisters to join her and before you know it, you have become an unofficial "Poppy Collector". I only wanted one, dammit!

P.S. Vita Plastica, loved the video! New group to add to my watch list. Thanks!

    2. Ro, I'm up to 7, plus her buddies Loni Lawrence and two Darlas. I've had to cut myself off, as they're starting to crowd the other girls out of shelf space. o.O

    3. Oh, I love Loni! Uh-oh… I take that back. I don’t like her. Don’t don’t don’t!

But I sure would love to see your shelves... from what I’ve seen so far, you have an amazing collection of beautiful gals.

These are in two different rooms: my bedroom and my son's room that is my doll room until he moves back in. I also have my Color Infusion dolls which are down in the living room; I forgot to take a pic of them.

    5. Thanks for the link. *eyes popping* You have some serious gorgeousness. Your cabinets are awesome and allow for nice groupings. Can’t decide whether you have themes or not – some groups seem to relate and others don’t – doesn’t matter either way, all the groups are fun to look at, as they should be for playing.

Enjoyed seeing the AFs up top. Too short to be the girls’ dance partners, but devilishly handsome, nonetheless. What Vendetta fig is that?

I’m a massive fan of male dolls but found tribal tattoo too effeminate for my taste (not to mention those dratted side-glancing eyes). But I love what you’ve done with yours, sort of an androgynous eccentric look that is appealing. Love his cane!

The shelf (office organizer) on the wall with the purse and boots is brilliant. May I copy that idea, please?

Many thanks, my friend. You take good pics. :)

      Delete
    6. Thanks bunches! I don't really have themes so much as I tried grouping dolls according to either face-mold or character. Some of them I only have one of, so they just get put wherever there's room. The sad thing is, I finished moving the cabinets around today so they're all in the same room, resulting in a re-arranging of the dolls... So what you see is now outdated. *facepalm*

V is a DC Collectibles figure and he's pretty amazing. He came with a rose, a conductor's baton, and a belt with six removable daggers. I just love him (and of course I hear Hugo Weaving's voice every time I look at him. lol)

I thought the same thing about the tribal tattoo Francisco, but once I got him out of that godawful purple shorts and mesh tank set and into some decent clothing, he grew on me. He does have an androgynous "young aristocrat" look to him, doesn't he? A couple of people have compared him to Dorian Grey, and I can definitely see it. Thanks for the compliment on the cane. I whipped it up in about 10 minutes (minus the trip to the bead store lol).

Please, copy away! I just used dressmaker pins, curved into an "S" shape, as hooks on the bar to hang purses from. I don't know if all of these organizers have that bar though, so if you like that idea, you might be able to replicate it by stringing some wire across the top and hanging them from that? Either way, I know you'll come up with something brilliant. You always do.

p.s. Did you notice the Wizbus is still hanging about? I need to get that thing cleaned up and put on display!

      Delete
    7. Oh my gosh! Bless you! You still have the wizbug! I didn’t notice it because for some reason I remembered it as being more yellow, so I’m really glad you pointed it out to me - it warms my heart. Dougie and Zoe never did make it back from Christy O’s wedding story and I just hope all is well with her and Mr. and Mrs. D. Donut.

I was trying to guess what figure your cane came from – kudos on a spectacularly clever and very original idea. I definitely see DG in TTF.

Although it’s work to move dolly displays, it is an excuse for happy play time in setting them up again, yeah?

    8. Remember remember the fifth of November
      Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
      Should ever be forgot...

Sorry; couldn't resist! I love the movie V for Vendetta. I'm also a mad de-boxer, so I'm practically twitching that you still have him NRFB. ^^ Thanks for showing off your lovely collection!

    9. Crystal, jump in here. I'm a deboxer too but for some reason like that your fig is still in his box

I grew up in New Zealand so November 5th Guy Fawkes Night with bonfires and fireworks is a happy memory.

      Delete
    10. lol V has been out of the box and photographed, but when we moved I put any dolls I had still had the boxes for back into them for the move. His presentation is so nice, with the background info on the character on the cover and the vivid colors, that I just figured why not display him as is? I need to get some shelves for the AFs though.

As an American, my only knowledge of Guy Fawkes Night is what you and Wizzy have told me, plus the movie V for Vendetta, which is a favorite of mine as well, sabrelioness. It's a fascinating holiday, celebrated by many for different reasons, I'm sure. I think a lot of Americans are currently admiring the anarchy aspect of it, since our own government is becoming so "1984" in a lot of ways. But that's a completely different discussion altogether. lol

I have some of those "Clip-It-Ups" coming tomorrow so I'll be able to go through my doll clothes and hang up the ones I'm keeping. Right now they're crammed into a bin, getting crushed and making me dread redressing. Once I get that accomplished, I'll take pics of the room as it is now. :)

Ro, yes the patrons are the "bosses" in my house! I like to give them what they want because if I don't, my peace and quiet (as well as my peace of mind) flies right out the window! LOL
