The Barbie Look by Bill Greening

Debuting early 2013 are “The Barbie Look” dolls and accessory packs by Bill Greening. Greening is a principal designer for Mattel (he created the Barbie Basics).

Barbie Look Shopper Doll No. 1 is Caucasian and Doll No. 2 is AA. The four fashion accessory packs are Tea Party, Golf, Poolside and Red Carpet.

Suggested Retail for dolls: $29.99
Suggested Retail for accessory packs: $24.99

Doll No. 2 is my favorite and an absolute must have. She is sleek and looks to be copping serious diva attitude.

My other absolute must have is the Tea Party Accessory Pack. The dress is light and airy, belted at the waist with a full skirt and very flattering sleeveless wrap bodice. A fascinator, no less, compliments the dress.

But wait! That’s not all. Look at the adorable little tea set!

Anyone for tea?

  1. The dolls don't really intrest me, but those clothes! You don't see clothes like that much
in Barbie Land these days. A must have!

    1. Yeah, the dolls are a little stagnant. Huge irritation they’re not on pivotal bodies. But I’m terribly fond of the Mbili head mold in general, and I really like the attitude of this one so plan to acquire her. I agree with you about the clothing. Nice surprise! Considering how cool the Gunn collection was, it is a relief not to see Mattel take a backward slide.

  2. I like Red Rose brand tea ;-D

That tea party dress looks like a Roville styled dress. Now that is a compliment to Mattel after I have been scolding them about their new Kenwear.

The new dolls look cool, too. Love those big sunglasses. Boo for the model muse bodies though. Sigh.

    1. Thanks, Dana. That dress is coming my way no matter what! Maybe two in order to get four teacups. LOL Yeah, boo to the MM body. Sigh.. it’s never perfect, is it? Or, should I say, with dolly folks it is never enough? Two very different things. ;)

    2. It's both. Mattel dodges perfection ;-D AND with dolly folks, it is NEVER enough. From a self-proclaimed dolly folk!

  3. *Gasp* The tea party dress is to die for! I agree with you, Doll No. 2 is gorgeous! I've never been a fan of the pucker that the Stephie face has but I like her outfit. I'm loving the fashion packs too.

    Thanks for posting!

    1. I agree with you, Tracy. No. 1’s dress is lovely. I think I’ll wait for that one to show up on eBay so I can forgo the doll with the Steffie head mold.

  4. I'm happy to see Mattel coming out with something newish as far as the clothes. I really wish they would get it that these Model Muse bodies don't have to be used for all their non-play line dolls. I do like both dolls, but at $30 + $12 for new body, I doubt that I will buy. I do LOVE the tea and the golf accessory packs.

    1. Sometimes I wonder if Mattel ever listens to adult collectors. Or is it just us “players” who want to see more articulation? I guess the hobby is different for everyone, but for the players the cost of rebodying certainly means we have to think twice.

  5. Yes the clothes are great! I hope they keep improving on that. Do they continue to give us Model Muse bodies so we are forced to buy another, pivotal doll. Unfair Mattel.

    1. Oh! ha-aha! I had not thought of that. Could it be that the economy has driven Mattel to devious intent? Wouldn’t it be perfect for us if they sold the doll bodies separate from the head, with fashions on the side. Gawd, I would be in la-de-dolly-la heaven!

    2. Mattel executives: Oh, no! They've uncovered our Master Plan!

Mattel PR: Oh, but they're collectors ... they'll buy everything!

Both groups in harmony: Hhhhhhaaaaaa Hhhhhhaaaa!

  8. I am with you. I like the tea party dress. I dont understand the AA limbs. Do her legs bend or something? Also, they have opposite bent arms. Strange

    1. LOL I take it you don’t like the bodies. Neither do I! The legs don’t bend; nor does anything else. Thanks for your comment.

    1. I’m still out on the golf set. It’s clever and well done, but it’s pink.

  10. I do not want those bodies but I do like all the clothing and accessories. I also appreciate that only the golf pack is full of pink - so I wont get that one, unless it's on clearance. Who am I kidding? I wont get any of it unless it's on clearance, lol.

    1. Out of all the things to make pink, why a golf bag? I went online to see if they make such a thing in 1:1 scale. They actually do! I can’t imagine anyone taking a pink golf bag toting golfer seriously.

Still, like you, I think clearance racks have a way of making dolly items more appealing, so who knows. It’s possible one of my dollies will show up one day with a pink golf bag slung over her shoulder.

Wait! Nix that. Any dolly who has a pink golf bag isn’t going to have it slung over her shoulder; she’s going to have a golf cart. I am NOT buying a golf cart, darnnit!
